Meet Recap

Lady Pirates win 2nd consecutive Conference Championship and 2nd in school history! Even though the Lady Pirates were defending meet champions, they were actually seeded to finish 4th this season having already lost head to head matchups earlier in the season against East Central and Batesville (and Connersville having beat Batesville). But in the championship meet when it mattered most, the Lady Pirates stepped up and overcame all odds to upset the field. The Lady Pirates started the day in record breaking fashion with the foursome of Abby Bausback, Emily Eberhardt, Elaine Welage, and Bri Stagge smashing the school record in the 200 Medley Relay and edging East Central for a huge win and phenomenal start to an exciting back and forth meet. Next, Freshman Becky Pfeifer stepped up to take a surprise 2nd place in the 200 free in a PR (personal record) effort followed by Emily Eberhardt and Elaine Welage taking 2nd and 6th respectively in the 200 IM, both with huge PR’s. The next event saw Bri Stagge finish a close 2nd in the 50 free with a PR that was 4 years old! During Friday nights diving competition, Abigail Bailey finished 5th, securing the Pirates 2 important points. The next event in the pool was the 100 butterfly and Abby Bausback and Elaine Welage were huge for the Pirates going 2-3 in a tight race (Welage edging 4th place by .01). Bri Stagge then become the first Lady Pirate in school history to ever break 56 seconds in the 100 free finishing 2nd in a school record swim. Becky Pfeifer continued her success by dropping 6 seconds from her best time in the 500 free and finished 4th. She then teamed up with Julia Pacilio, Emily Lowe, and Sally Wagner to place 4th in the 200 Free Relay. The next event in the pool had Abby Bausback finishing a strong 2nd in the 100 backstroke. Next saw the Lady Pirates lone individual champion as Emily Eberhardt dominated the pool in a huge victory in the 100 breaststroke beating the nearest competitor by 3 seconds! In the final and most exciting event of the meet, the 400 Free Relay, the Lady Pirates needed a win to secure the meet championship and they did exactly what they had to. But Batesville didn’t go easy, the Lady Pirates had to overcome a 6 second school record effort by the Bulldogs to win the 400 Fr relay by a narrow margin in the 2nd fastest time in Greensburg school history! Congratulations Lady Pirate Swimmers!
