Union County High School
Greensburg High School
The Lady Pirates soccer team hosted the Lady Patriots from Union County and came away with a 3-2 victory. After spotting the visitor two first half goals at the 28 and 19 minute mark, the home squad rallied behind better intensity, team communication and desire to get the win.
Emma Hellmich netted the first goal 12 minutes into the second half as she collected a ball inside the 18 for the finish. With 10 minutes to play, Freshman Haley Bockover recorded her first career goal as she took the assist from Emma Overmyer. The game winner came two minutes later when Julia Pacilio found the back of net. The final five minutes was a time of survival as the Lady Patriots mounted a charge to equal the game. The defensive line of Rylie Smith, Emma Porter, Morgan Murray, Hannah Redmon and Bockover played a solid game as they forced three off-side calls including two decisive ones in the second half that negated goals for the visitor.
The first half intensity lacked at times, but the desire and passion from the seniors to get everyone going in the second half was impressive. Taking shots besides the goal scorers were Overmyer, Michaela Myers Katelynn Hall, and Abby Easley. Emily Lowe had 5 saves and allowed 2 goals while Keirsten Lynette had 3 saves for the game.
The team will be in action on Thursday when they travel to Batesville for a JV full game at 5PM and a varsity match after. The Lady Pirates will return to Batesville on Saturday evening when they play Oldenburg Academy at 6PM at Bill Gillespie Soccer Complex.
