Game Recap

Greensburg defeated Lawrenceburg tonight, 25-18, 23-25, 25-20, 25-23. This match tonight is the highlight of our season thus far. This victory was a complete team effort. It took touches on defense, strong play at the net, smart choices from hitters, and quick thinking from our setter. Anyone that has followed us this season knows that we have struggled with keeping intensity for an entire match and tonight we did it. We had moments when things weren’t going our way, but we broke the cycle and battled through. There were a lot of great things that happened tonight that are not mentioned in stats. Our positive energy and chemistry tonight was huge for us. We were playing for each other and trusting each other to get the job done. For the first time tonight, we played with positive emotion that is thrilling to see on the court. Sierra Johnson was our strongest server scoring 17 points and she also seemed to be everywhere on defense digging 20 balls. Not only that, but she added 7 kills while in the front row. Elaine Welage served 9 points and had 7 kills. She played a great net game really being aggressive. Bailey Meyer lead us in offense with 20 kills and she, too, had 19 digs on defense. Kirstin Hersley fulfilled her role so well tonight with 8 points serving and 12 points defensively. Braelyn Evans did her job in the middle with 3 kills and 3 blocks, and Ashley Bower, too, was on the floor digging up 19 balls defensively, while Mary West was swinging well and gaining 4 kills. Our setter, Ashlynn Meyer, had a great night serving 7 points, digging 13 balls on defense and putting up 37 assists. She is the glue to our team. Her decision making is improving each match and she works so hard to get her hands on the volleyball each time it’s on our side. We are 12-4 overall and 5-3 in EIAC action. We travel to Lawrenceburg Saturday morning for a tourney.
