Connersville High School
Greensburg High School
The Greensburg Lady Pirates Tennis Team opened up the 2017 season with a solid 4-1 win over EIAC foe Connersville. The host Pirates waisted no time getting into the swing of things as all three singles players posted quick victories.
First off the court for Greensburg was Freshman Bailey Menkedick as she blanked her Connersville counter part 6-0, 6-0 at second singles. “I was really pleased with how Bailey jumped out early. You would have never guessed this was her first Varsity match. She looked comfortable right from the start”, said Coach Bailey.
Following close behind, Freshman Ellie Acra was also going about her first high school match with ease. “Ellie also jumped out to a quick start and never looked back as she won 6-0, 6-1 at #3 singles”.
At #1 Singles, Freshman Raegan Rigney took care of her part winning 6-1, 6-1. “I was very glad to see Raegan work through her match. The conditions were not ideal, and Rigney did what she had to do to win”.
With the overall match in hand, focus turned to the doubles teams. At #1, Elaine Welage/Julia Pacilio teamed up to face a solid squad from Connersville. “The connersville duo have played together now for 3 years and they have a lot of experience. Elaine and Julia battled but came up short 6-4, 6-3”.
At #2, Kirsten Fong/Emma Hellmich paired up to defeat their opponents 6-3, 6-3. “We have not had a lot of time to work on doubles in practice so far, but I was pleased overall with how the girls played together. I saw some good things, but I also saw plenty of things we will have to get better at, but it’s a process”.
In JV action, Ellie Burkhart split two matches, winning her first 8-0 and dropping her second 6-4. Sarah Schneider won her opening match 7-6. In JV doubles, Emma Nobbe/Hannah Redmon lost a couple of matches 8-1 and 6-2.
