The Lady Pirates rebounded after two straight setbacks to defeat Madison 4-1 on Wednesday evening at the Pirates courts. At #1 Singles, Raegan Rigney took down Riley Boone by a 6-3, 6-2 score. #2 Singles saw Bailey Menkedick defeated Regin Dean 7-5(5), 6-1. Returning after missing two matches due to illness, Ellie Acra won her match at #3 Singles over Wiley Gross 6-1, 7-5. In Doubles play, Elaine Welage/Julia Pacilio dropped their contest to Emma Staicer/Lauren Cielinsky 3-6, 7-5, 7-5. At Second Doubles, Kirsten Fong/Claudia Westhafer defeated Claire Lostutter/Catherine Fisher 6-2, 7-6(4).
“We really got off to a good start in the match and set the tone. Then I think we kind of relaxed a bit and let several matches become closer than they should have been. We will learn from that and hopefully get better as the season goes on.”
In JV action, Emma Hellmich played to very good matches, winning in singles 8-0 and teaming up with Hannah Redmon to win a doubles match 8-1. Emma Nobbe and Sarah Schneider paired up to win two doubles matches 8-3 and 6-2.
The win moves the Lady Pirates to 2-2 on the season. Greensburg will travel to Shelbyville on Sat. to compete in the 8-team Shelbyvill Invite.
