Greensburg High School
State ranked Columbus East rolled into Greensburg Monday evening for a clash with the Lady Pirates. When all was said and done, the Olympians would roll out of town with a 4-1 victory in hand. “I felt overall that we played some very good tennis at times. We would put ourselves in position to win some games, but then lack of experience would kick in and we would play some very loose points”.
The lone point of the evening came at #2 Doubles where Kirsten Fong & Claudia Westhafer overcame a first set loss to win 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-4). “Kirsten and Claudia were ahead nearly the entire time, but that lack of experience showed in some spots. They let big leads get away in both sets, but I was very proud of how they overcame that to win.”
In Singles action, Raegan Rigney dropped a hard-fought match 6-3, 6-2. Bailey Menkedick lost her match at second singles 6-3, 6-1, and Ellie Acra, playing #3 Singles, lost 6-0, 6-0. At first doubles, Elaine Welage & Julia Pacilio lost 6-0, 6-1. “Elaine & Julia played one of the better doubles teams they will see this season.”
In JV action, Emma Hellmich & Sarah Schneider teamed up to win twice in doubles, 8-0 & 6-1. “I really liked what I saw in the Hellmich/Schneider match up. They played well together for their first time paired up.” Hannah Redmon & Ellie Burkhart also won a doubles match by a 6-2 count.
