The Greensburg cross country teams traveled to Nashville and raced in the 16th Annual Eagle Classic Saturday morning. âWe had an outstanding day. All of the kids ran their best times of the seasonâ, noted Coach Davis. âWeâre starting to see how good we can be.â
The girlsâ varsity team competed in the Elite Race, which featured six schools from around the state that are ranked in the top 20. The Lady Pirates finished 11 out of the 15 teams. Brenner Hanna was the first Greensburg runner to cross the finish line. She placed 13th overall in a time of 18:52. That performance is the second fastest in school history. Cathy Newhart took 35th place in 19:40. Mollie Pumphrey was 75th in a time of 20:41. Freshmen Olivia Colson and Hilary Ernstes broke 22:00 for the first time ever. Colson ran 21:34 to take 84th, and Ernstes placed 85th with a time of 21:51. Charlotte Anderson finished 95th in 23:24 while Cheaney Jones crossed the finish line in 23:49 for 99th.
Greensburg had several athletes in the reserve races at Brown County. Sophomore Molly Brandes finished in 24:49 to earn 121st. Morgan Winkler recorded a time of 25:25 and placed 148th. Claire Burford broke 30:00 for the first time this season. She had a time of 29:05. The Pirates return to action on Thursday when they host North and South Decatur in the county meet. The boysâ race is scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm.
