Saturday morning the Lady Pirates Cross Country team competed in the IHSAA semi-state race at Shelbyvilleâs Blue River Memorial Park. Brebeuf Jesuit won the team competition with 70 pts and qualified for the state meet next week at Terre Haute. Other teams that qualified for state included Zionsville, Carmel, Hamilton Southeastern, Fishers, and Brownsburg. Greensburg placed 9th out of the 21 teams in the semi-state race. The Lady Pirates finished their season 96-19, which is the best record in school history.
Brenner Hanna qualified for the state meet individually and placed 23rd overall in the race. She used a strong finish over the last 1 km to finish in a time of 18:45.4. Brenner set a new personal best and equaled the school record with that performance. Brenner Hanna is the second Lady Pirate runner to ever qualify for the state meet in cross country. She will race next Saturday at 1:45 at the Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
Mollie Pumphrey also ran her best time ever for 5 km. She finished in 20:05 and earned 77th overall in the race. Mollie finishes her freshman year with the 5th fastest time in school history. Cathy Newhart was 91st in 20:22. Cathy leaves the cross country program as the third fastest runner ever for 5km. She was all-country, all-conference, all-sectional, and all-regional in each of the years that she competed for Greensburg.
Liz Pavy and Cameron Jones finished in 108th and 109th, respectively. Liz set a new personal best of 20:39 with her time while Cameron broke 21:00 for the first time this season also running 20:39. Cameron concluded her cross country career ranked 7th all-time. Olivia Colson ran a personal best of 21:24 on Saturday to place 109th. Oliviaâs time moves her to 12th all-time in school history. Hilary Ernstes placed 168th in a time of 23:16.
