On Friday evening the Greensburg Boys Track and Field team competed in the Joe Schott Twilight Invitational at Decatur Central High School. Brownsburg won the 6 team invite while the Pirates came in 5th with 49 points. Sophomore Tanner Yonts had the top performance of the night wit a PR toss of 124′ 8″ in the Discus for 2nd place overall. The Pirates will be in action three times next week but Tuesday will be senior night for Michael Back, Chandler Deaton, Scott Dorsett, Ben Newhart and Devin Ruble at 5PM.

The Lady Pirates Track & Field Team placed 3rd at the Decatur Central Twilight Invitational Friday night just 4 points shy of taking 2nd place. Ben Davis Girls won the event with 157 points, 2nd Brownsburg 120, 3rd Greensburg 116, 4th Greenfield Central 102, 5th Decatur Central 53, 6th Scecina Memorial 36 & 7th Convenant Christian 16. The Greensburg Girls placed in all 16 events with 2 individual Invite Champions & 5 individual Runner Up Champions. By taking early leads in their races, Sophomore, Cameron Jones, won the 800 while Shelby Pake took 1st in the 3200. Pake was also the Runner Up Champ in the 1600 and was just a few seconds from her own school record. Hurdler, Ashlynn Meyer, earned Runner Up in both the 100H & 300H. With a new personal record, Meyer is now the 10th fastest 300 hurdler in school history! Pole Vault School Record Holder, Ellie Kramer, also placed 2nd in her signature event while Freshman Thrower, Lily Grimes, had a new outdoor PR in shot put while earning Runner Up honors. Other highlights of the evening included the 4 x 800 relay team of Pake, Morgan Winkler, Cathy Newhart, and Jones running a season best & becoming the 5th fastest team in school history. Other new personal records were set by Kayla Davis (300H), Erin Browning (Shot Put), Lily Grimes (Discus), & Morgan Winkler (800).

The Pirates win moves them to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in the EIAC. Keegan McCullough earned medalist honors with a 37 on the front nine at Greensburg Country Club. Also contributing in scoring for the Pirates were Reid Domingo (41), Trevor Stapp (41), and Anthony Treash (43). The Spartans were led by Chandler Graves with a 41.

The Pirates moved to 3-0 on the season with a tri-meet victory over North Decatur and Jennings County. Jake Simmons (JC) was meet medalist with a 34. Scoring for the Pirates were Keegan McCullough (35), Reid Domingo (39), Kyle Sellers (41), Trevor Stapp (48), Anthony Treash (48), and Trevor Foster (55).

The highlight of the night came when Keegan McCullough recorded a hole-in-one on the 190-yard par 3 5th hole.

For nearly every one of these girls, this was just their second varsity match ever and we really haven’t been able to get much quality time on the court with the bad weather. I already saw much improvement from the first match a week ago, so this season will be a work in progress”, said Coach Bailey. In JV action, Ellie Burkhart/Haylie Burton won 6-3 in doubles as did Elaine Welage/Julia Pacilio by a 6-0 score.

The Lady Pirates defeated both Jennings County & South Dearborn Tuesday night in North Vernon. The Greensburg Girls scored 80.5 points to the Panthers 55.5 & the Knights 19. Placing in all 15 scored events, the Lady Pirates came away with 10 championship finishes & 5 runner up places. One of the most dominating events was the 100 Hurdles where the Lady Pirates swept taking 1st, 2nd, & 3rd. Leading the trio was Ashlynn Meyer with a 16.2 personal record finish. This makes Meyer the 5th fastest hurdler in school history! The 4 x 800 Relay Team of Shelby Pake, Morgan Winkler, Cathy Newhart, and Cameron Jones also ran a season best, making the group the 7th fastest team in history. Other ladies also posting personal bests in their events include Mary West, Kailee Kidd, Emma Taylor, Emily Lowe & Savannah Kiefer. Results are as follows:

The Greensburg Boys Track and Field team opened their outdoor season at Jennings County Tuesday evening. The host Panthers won the meet with 88 points. The Pirates came in 2nd with 37 and South Dearborn was 3rd with 31 points. Leading the way with 1st place finishes were Devin Ruble in the 100 meter dash with a PR time of 11.3 and the 4×100 relay team of Jadrian Woods, Joey Woods, Zach Pokrywinski and Ruble in 46.00.
