The Greensburg Pirates ended their season on Thursday in the regional round of the IHSAA state tournament. Battling some of the top teams in the state and the wet, challenging conditions of Champions Pointe golf course, the Pirates posted a team score of 357 – good for 16th place. Sophomore Devin Winkler improved on his sectional score and led the Pirates with an 86. Senior Trevor Foster shot an 88 in his last round playing for Greensburg. The rest of the scoring came from Ben Bausback (90) and Curtis Bausback (93). Fellow Senior Cole Carder competed in his first and final regional round and posted a score of 99.
Despite playing well in a practice round the day before, the Pirates had a tough time adjusting to the overnight rain and difficult pin locations. When we missed, we just could not make the recovery shots that we needed. It was a very difficult day, but the experience is much needed.
This marks the end of another successful Pirate golf season, which included another EIAC conference championship and a regional berth for the 6th straight year.
