Greensburg High School vs Oldenburg Academy

After 3 tries in getting the 2018 spring tennis season underway, it finally happened on Tuesday evening as Greensburg travled to Batesville to square off against Oldenburg. On a cold, breezy, overcast day, conditions not great for outdoor tennis, the Pirates came up short by a 5-0 score.
At #1 Singles, Raegan Rigney slugged it out with Kathryn Wilder. “Raegan & Kathryn really had some great points as both girls were hitting the ball quite well for being their first match of the season”. In the end however, Wilder came out with a hard-fought win 6-2, 6-3. At #2 Singles, Ellie Acra went to work against Angela Wanstrath. In another very competitative match, Acra came up on the losing end 6-4, 6-1. “Again, I was pleased with the level of play at second singles. Both players were hitting the ball pretty well throughout the match. At #3 Singles, Emma Hellmich got her first call for a Varsity tennis match. She was matched up against Sarah Price and Price was able to take advantage to win 6-0, 6-0. Things would not turn around for the Pirates in the doubles portion of the match as Oldenburg would continue their winning ways. At #1, Bailey Menkedick/Kirsten Fong went up against Hanna Hurm/Sarah Preston and fell short 6-2, 6-2. “This was Bailey’s first doubles match and I thought she played pretty well. Kirsten also had some positive play and I look forward to this pair finding their style of play.” At #2, Claudia Westhafer/Sarah Schneider fell to Claire Hollingsworth/Carsen Thompson 6-1, 6-4. “Claudia and Sarah dropped their first set 6-1 and fell behind 4-1 in the second and then sort of came to life, winning 3 in a row for force a tie at 4-4. “I was very impressed with them not giving up and fighting till the end.” The second set went to Oldenburg 6-4.
In JV action, Olivia Colson dropped her singles match 8-3 and the doubles teams of Aliyah Evans/Emma Nobbe and Olivia Colson/Mollie Pumphrey lost 8-2 and 8-5 respectively.
